Electric Security Tips

To ensure the electrical safety of your home, keep the following points in mind:

  • Use BSTI approved conductors and equipment.
  • All circuits should be protected by using suitable fuses.
  • Electrical appliances used at home like fridge, oven, television, computer etc. should be properly grounded.
  • All switches should be connected to the supply line phase.
  • For single phase two pole and for three phase four pole main switch should be used.
  • A change over switch of the correct rating must be used when installing a generator.
  • Do not use the switch with wet hands.
  • A safe distance must be maintained from nearby electrical lines during any kind of construction work.
  • Care should be taken while planting that the required distance from the overhead line is maintained.

To ensure the electrical safety of your office, keep the following points in mind:

  • All the work of the sub-station should be done by the responsible person.
  • Entrances to installations containing high electrical power equipment shall be kept closed at other times except for inspection or maintenance.
  • While working, ensure that the electrical connection of lines and equipment is fully isolated, testing each phase and grounding if necessary.
  • Every worker should wear suitable clothing, suitable shoes, helmet and gloves while working.
  • Workers must use approved safety belts and straps and take other protective measures during work.
  • When working with a portable ladder, the ladder must be tied to prevent it from slipping.
  • It should be noted that the equipment used in the work area is working properly and should be properly maintained, the defective equipment should be removed.
  • Conductive objects should be kept at a safe distance while working with live lines or equipment.
